Women in Science

The Women in Science group at QNS is a self-organized collective that welcomes all female members, including students, postdocs, senior scientists, engineers, and administrative staff. Our events are usually organized by a team of three: a postdoc, a senior scientist, and a graduate student. While we primarily focus on supporting women, most events are open to all QNS members, regardless of gender.

Our foundation is to create a safe, inclusive space where everyone can freely share experiences and build self-confidence.

Our goals are to:

• Enhance professional growth through career development initiatives,
• Build professional connections by fostering networks among scientists, and
• Promote gender balance by advancing gender equality.

To meet these objectives, we host a range of events, such as Career Coffee sessions and panel discussions with experienced scientists, workshops on soft skills, and team-building activities.

QNS maintains a healthy gender balance across teams (55% female, 45% male), particularly within our research team, which is exceptional. Since all QNS students earn their degrees from Ewha, a women’s university, we are committed to developing each scientist’s skills and supporting them as they begin their careers, wherever that path may lead.

Since many students have questions about career development, work-life balance, and navigating a male-dominated field, QNS actively supports gender diversity through flexible policies, such as parental leave, which the Director regularly endorses, with an average duration of 10.8 months.
