Science Arcade

Welcome to the Science Arcade website.

Explore the world of quantum physics and scientists through a variety of interactive games. The IBS Center for Quantum Nanoscience (QNS) is a leading research center at the forefront of the quantum era. As part of its mission, QNS has continuously developed diverse educational approaches to inspire curiosity and interest in quantum physics among the next generation of scientists.

Through Science Arcade, we offer a range of free game-based content that allows participants to learn about and experience real laboratory life and the process of scientific inquiry in a familiar and engaging format. These games are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all ages—from third-grade elementary students to university students—and can even provide a refreshing and entertaining perspective for professional scientists and researchers.

Science Arcade is also expected to create even greater educational and creative synergy when used alongside QNS’s flagship educational program, QURIOUS.

Descriptions

* Some games may require the purchase of individual materials and additional preparation. (e.g., purchasing dice, cutting out game components, etc.)

Now Available

Science Map
Research teams made up of professors, doctoral researchers, and students set out on a journey to discover the scientific truths hidden in the natural world. Explore a map inspired by the Seoul subway system, and experience a wide range of scientific principles and real-life research activities that scientists encounter in their work.

*All game components are available.

The First Lab
Become a quantum scientist and build the very first quantum computer. Learn a range of quantum technologies and acquire qubits, the fundamental building blocks of a quantum computer. Protect your qubits from technical and environmental challenges and complete your own quantum computer.

*All game components are available.

Taboo Game
One of the best ways to check your understanding of scientific concepts is by explaining them to others. By describing scientific terms without using taboo words, you can deepen your understanding and develop your own unique explanations.

*All game components are available

Entangled DiceGame
Does your opponent move based on your dice roll? That’s because you are “entangled.”Experience one of the key features of quantum mechanics—entanglement—through this interactive game.

*Dice sold separately.

Superposition Bingo
Does each square have to contain only one number? Not in the quantum world. Try a more exciting bingo game using the fascinating quantum property of superposition—being O and X at the same time.

*All game components are available

Squidinger’s Game
The Squidinger Game is a blended name combining Schrödinger’s Cat and Squid Game. As suggested by its title, this game is inspired by the famous “Red Light, Green Light” game from Squid Game, allowing players to indirectly experience the quantum world where observation determines life and death.

Quantum Ttacji
Only heads and tails? Go beyond traditional ttakji and try a quantum-inspired flipping game that includes the concept of superposition.

Qide and Seek
Quantum features cannot be observed in classical physical situations. Players take on the roles of quantum properties—such as superposition and entanglement—and try to avoid the “observer” representing classical physics. The moment you are observed, you lose your quantum nature!

STM Monopoly
Become a real STM scientist and publish research papers through experiments and theoretical development. Experience the unexpected events and challenges that occur in real academic life.

Qthello(Quantum Othello)
Is the classic game of Othello no longer exciting enough? Upgrade the rules and enjoy a more dynamic and engaging version of Othello.

Human STM
Become a scanning tunneling microscope(STM) yourself and observe atoms firsthand.
