The Center for Quantum Nanoscience (QNS), an extramural research center of the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) located at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea, is seeking an experienced researcher to lead our Theory Team.

Position Information
- Job Title: Group Leader of the QNS Theory Team

- Job Description
- Lead the QNS Theory Team in the development of theoretical models for quantum nanoscience, with particular emphasis on spin dynamics, quantum transport, magnetic interactions, and coherent control at the atomic and molecular scale.
- Develop theoretical frameworks to support QNS experiments based on ESR-STM, STM/AFM, surface-ensemble ESR, and optical/transport measurements of surface atoms, molecules, and quantum materials.
- Work closely with experimental teams to interpret data, guide new experiments, and identify high-impact theoretical directions.
- Expand the theoretical scope of QNS toward broader condensed-matter and quantum-material platforms, including low-dimensional materials, correlated systems, superconducting surfaces, and topological quantum phenomena.
- Mentor students, postdoctoral researchers, and junior theorists, while contributing to the scientific strategy, publication output, proposal writing, and international visibility of QNS.
5. Required Skill and Knowledge
- PhD in theoretical physics, condensed-matter physics, quantum information science, physical chemistry, materials theory, or a closely related field.
- Strong research record in one or more of the following areas: quantum transport, spin dynamics, open quantum systems, many-body theory, quantum control, magnetism, surface science, or correlated/topological quantum materials.
- Experience developing theoretical models that connect directly to experimental observables, especially in scanning probe microscopy, ESR, spectroscopy, or nanoscale transport.
- Strong computational skills in relevant methods such as exact diagonalization, master-equation approaches, quantum optimal control, DFT-based interpretation, tight-binding models, or many-body simulations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with experimental scientists and translate theoretical concepts into experimentally testable predictions.
- Proven ability to lead scientific projects, supervise junior researchers, coordinate collaborations, and publish high-quality interdisciplinary research.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to represent the team and QNS in international conferences, collaborations, and funding proposals.

- Contract Period: Appointment terms will follow IBS/QNS regulations and are renewable based on performance and mutual agreement
