PostDoc at QNS – Project: “On Surface Quantum Chemistry”

Research-Topic: Design, synthesis and scanning tunneling microscopy characterization of molecular spin qubits and 2D quantum architectures on surfaces

About us: The IBS Center for Quantum Nanoscience (QNS) is a basic research center located in the heart Seoul, South Korea. Our working language is English, 50% of our researchers come from outside of Korea, and 55% of our researchers are women. QNS is laying the foundation for future quantum technologies by exploring the use of quantum behavior atom by atom with highest precision. We focus on the fabrication and exploration of quantum nanostructures while aiming at achieving full control over the quantum states of the constituent atoms and molecules. QNS has become a leading center in the field of quantum-coherent nanoscience by filling our world-class facility with ground-breaking tools and inquisitive minds immersed in a culture of exploration.

About the Project: We are enforcing an approach that encompasses quantum mechanics, molecular chemistry and surface sciences in order to develop surface-compatible molecular spin qubits and 2D qubit arrays. While the coherence properties of a molecular spin qubit can be modulated via the boundless possibilities of molecular design, the scaling-up may be realized via 2D crystal engineering and on-surface synthesis protocols.

Primary scientific tasks include:
  • Design and synthesis of molecular spin qubits compatible with surfaces
  • Development of methods to transfer and address molecular spins in UHV
  • On-surface synthesis and fabrication of robust qubit-based 2D architectures
  • Run experiments, write proposals, publish research results in peer-reviewed journals
  • Supervision and support of Master and PhD students

Qualifications:
  • PhD in chemistry, materials science or related fields
  • Experience with (but not limited to) HPLC, NMR, ESR and/or instrumentation related to chemical analysis (MS)
  • Experience with data analysis software such as Matlab, Igor, Origin
  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • English at professional work level
  • Ambitious self-starter wanting to lead projects


Employment Detail:
  • Salary: based on experience, inquire for more information
