PostDoc at QNS – Project: “Computational Studies of Quantum Spins on Surfaces”

Research-Topic: Computational studies of Quantum Spins on Surfaces for Quantum Coherent Manipulation

About us: The IBS Center for Quantum Nanoscience (QNS) is a basic research center located in the heart Seoul, South Korea. Our working language is English, 50% of our researchers come from outside of Korea, and 55% of our researchers are women. QNS is laying the foundation for future quantum technologies by exploring the use of quantum behavior atom by atom with highest precision. We focus on the fabrication and exploration of quantum nanostructures while aiming at achieving full control over the quantum states of the constituent atoms and molecules. QNS has become a leading center in the field of quantum-coherent nanoscience by filling our world-class facility with ground-breaking tools and inquisitive minds immersed in a culture of exploration.

About the Project: In this project, we focus on computational studies of surface spin systems using a combination of ab-initio calculations and model Hamiltonians tailored to explore the coherence properties of single spins and coupled spin systems. The long-term goal is to achieve a predictive quality in these calculations to explore new systems with promising properties for long-lived spin states.

Primary scientific tasks include:
  • Development of computational tools based on existing tools (written in Fortran and Python)
  • Implementation of model Hamiltonians in existing solver frameworks and optimization of parameters that govern the quantum coherence of these systems
  • Analysis of data based on machine learnings

Qualifications:
  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or related fields
  • English at professional work level
  • Ambitious self-starter wanting to lead projects
  • Want to work closely with experimental teams
  • Basic knowledge in Fortran and Python 3
  • Experience with Density Functional Theory or Quantum Chemistry Codes is an advantage but not required

Employment Detail:
  • Salary: based on experience, inquire for more information
  • Annual leave starting at 15 days per year and increasing according to Korean Labor law
  • Relocation support: one-way flight and moving fee, if moving to Korea
